Nearly a million Bulgarians will travel during the holidays – Agro Plovdiv – 2024-04-30 09:28:00

800 thousand of our compatriots will travel to Bulgaria and another 150 thousand will go abroad

The approaching Easter, which we will celebrate on May 5, is shaping up to be a record for our tourism since 2019. Preferred foreign holiday destinations are the neighboring Balkan countries, but also Italy, Spain, Great Britain and other European countries.

“We expect very intensive journeys of the Bulgarians mainly in Bulgaria. The choice of our spas and mountain resorts, as well as our Black Sea, prevails,” said Konstantin Zankov, an expert in tourism to BNR.

“In total, the trips we expect are between 900 thousand and 1 million during the holidays – we are talking about the dates between May 1 and 10. This means that about 800,000 of our compatriots will travel to Bulgaria and another 150,000 will go abroad. But here we are talking about all forms of tourism, including and visiting close relatives and friends. And if in the previous years for this period we had about 600 thousand traveling Bulgarians, now they are about one million, which is a serious increase.”

This year we celebrate May Day, Easter and St. George’s Day on several consecutive days at the beginning of May. So people are taking a long spring break en masse by combining the days off with a day or two of paid vacation. “The expected price growth in the sector is between 5 and 10%, but this is normal because demand determines supply.” And the Bulgarian already books his vacation earlier, which allows him to better plan his expenses during the trip,” Konstantin Zankov is emphatic.

Inflation, wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, political instability and upcoming elections have no effect on the resident’s intention to travel. The same applies to foreign tourists, who choose Bulgaria this spring as a cheap and attractive destination.

“For the Easter holidays, we expect about 80 thousand foreigners in Bulgaria. For many of them, Bulgaria is a traditional destination for Easter and for a spring trip with a view to the approaching summer. And the summer season is shaping up to be very good. We have more flights booked from the UK market, extremely strong bookings in the Poland market and a slight increase in the Germany market, where unfortunately we are yet to regain our previous pace. The reason is that there the season is planned much earlier in order to have charters. We hope to finally reach the levels of 2019, which was a record for tourism worldwide,” Konstantin Zankov explains.
