Nearly 90 fines during large-scale taxi checks

Agents have issued a receipt to 87 taxis overnight this weekend. This happened during a special campaign against violations by taxi drivers.

Because the police is campaigning for a better collective labor agreement, fines were only given for excesses. 59 cases related to ‘traffic behaviour’, five times to technical defects, twice to driving without insurance, ten times to violations of the passenger transport law and eleven times to manipulation of the on-board computer.

Three taxi drivers were also caught driving under the influence. Two drivers have been registered for a so-called EMG course: that is a compulsory course of about 1,300 euros for drivers who have been caught in dangerous driving behaviour. In addition, two exemptions for driving on the bus lane have been taken.

The reason for the enforcement action, which also included enforcers and the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT), is the large number of taxis that are involved in traffic accidents. “Amsterdam takes the cake here,” the police writes on Instagram. “We hope this will make the taxi market fairer for drivers who do adhere to the rules properly, and safer for everyone.”
