There are at least 567 dubious healthcare companies active in the Netherlands. RTL News discovered that. Healthcare fraud researcher Karen Ottens has seen the problem in Twente for some time. “We see examples of criminals who are active in organized cannabis cultivation and then start a care agency,” she says in WNL on Saturday on NPO Radio 1.
The more than 500 companies that RTL discovered score high on several signals that may indicate fraud or criminal interference. Possible fraud or self-enrichment would be the order of the day among healthcare providers.
Ottens hopes that this news will improve supervision throughout the Netherlands. “These figures show that it is an underestimated problem. There are many agencies where healthcare providers put money into their own pockets for the vulnerable. At Ricos Netherlands, we have been conducting research for some time now with municipalities, the police, the judiciary and the tax authorities, among others. We find the interdependence of dubious healthcare providers and other forms of crime very worrying.”
