GORINCHEM On the day that the government will announce stricter corona measures, the RIVM will publish worrying figures. The number of newly reported infections in the Netherlands last week was no less than 43,903 compared to 27,485 the week before, an increase of 60%.
The number of reports of COVID-19 continues to increase in all regions and in all age groups. To date, no effect can be seen from the national measures that took effect on September 29. The number of reports of positively tested persons does not yet show stabilization.
In 22 of the 25 security regions, more than 150 people per 100,000 inhabitants were tested positive in the past week (risk level “serious”). Most infections per number of inhabitants are found in the regions of Amsterdam-Amstelland and Rotterdam-Rijnmond (see table 1).
The largest number of people with a positive test result per 100,000 inhabitants can still be found in the 18-24 age group.
MORE PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL The number of people admitted to hospital because of COVID-19 has also increased further. In the past week, 1,114 hospital admissions of COVID-19 patients on nursing wards were registered by the NICE foundation. That’s an increase of 40% compared to 803 hospital admissions in the previous week. *
The same applies to the number of people admitted to Intensive Care with COVID-19. In the past week, the NICE foundation registered 192 new admissions to the ICU. In the week before, this was 122 admissions, an increase of almost 60% *. In the past week, the GGD Municipal Health Service ‘and 150 COVID-19 patients reported as dead. * The deceased were over 35 years of age.
DEATH It CBS Central Bureau of Statistics reported last week that for the second week in a row more people died than expected. MORE PERSONS TESTED From October 5 to October 11, 280,539 people were tested in the GGD test streets, almost 58,000 more than in the week from September 28 to October 4. The results of 239,639 tests are known: 33,038 people tested positive. The percentage of positive tests has thus increased to 13.8%. In the week from September 30 to October 6, this was 10.4%.
