The government earlier launched a “talent hoarding” plan, which aroused widespread discussion in society. Sun Yuhan, secretary of the Bureau of Labor and Welfare, said today (9th) that since the launch of the high-end talent pass program on December 18 last year, the response has exceeded expectations. So far, there have been received almost 3,800 applications, and about 60% of them were approved. The talent recruited from Hong Kong revolves around 8 fields, including innovation and technology, and each has its own advantages over Singapore.
Sun Yuhan, who just finished his visit to Singapore, said in an interview with local media that Hong Kong hopes to attract talent mainly in the eight fields where the central government supports Hong Kong’s development in the 14th Five Year Plan, including the international financial center, the international innovation and technology center, the Chinese and foreign art and cultural exchange center, the international trading center, the international shipping center, the international aviation hub, the international dispute resolution service center and the legal ‘Asia-Pacific and regional intellectual property trading hub. Among them, the fields of innovation and technology are particularly prominent. They believe that talents appreciate opportunities. With the easing of epidemic control in Hong Kong and the mainland, Hong Kong’s advantage of “relying on the motherland and connecting the world” will become clearer, and the mainland’s economic growth trend will become a huge driving force.
Sun Yuhan also pointed out that Singapore is a pioneer in attracting talent. In fact, Hong Kong and Singapore have more complementary fields than their competitors. Some companies that have developed very successfully in Hong Kong have moved to Singapore, and the Singaporean entrepreneurs have gone to Hong Kong to expand their business. Each city leverages their respective strengths to create greater returns.
