Nearly 31,000 Moroccans stranded in the Kingdom on the background of anti-Covid-19 measures were able to return to their host country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad said on Tuesday in Rabat. Nasser Bourita.
Speaking during the weekly oral questions session in the House of Councilors, Mr. Bourita underlined that even if the return flights are organized by the embassies of foreign countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a cell to receive the requests from the persons concerned.
Contacts are established with embassies to give priority to Moroccans stranded internally, he added, highlighting as an example the case of Italy which is preparing to mobilize a ferry for this purpose.
On another note, Mr. Bourita noted that the repatriation operation is carried out gradually, noting that after Algeria, it will be the turn of Moroccan nationals established in Spain to benefit from it in the next 48 hours.
There is a clear vision according to which the accent is put first on the regions where the categories living in precariousness are concentrated like the occupied presidents of Sebta and Melilia, assured the minister, who drew attention to the case of Moroccan workers on farms in Spain.
Morocco has in this context decided to place returnees in compulsory medical isolation, noted the official, saying that this is a sovereign choice.
