2951 new corona cases were registered between Thursday morning and Friday morning. That is lower than the previous Fridays. As a result, the average number of positive tests continues to fall.
Exactly one week ago, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) registered more than 3400 new positive tests. The Friday before it was almost 6400 and another Friday earlier more than 11,000.
In the past seven days, 18,722 people have tested positive for the coronavirus. That equates to an average of 2,675 cases per day. That is the lowest level in almost a month. The average falls for the eighteenth day in a row.
Big cities
Amsterdam had the highest number of confirmed infections. In the capital, 242 people were told that they had contracted the corona virus. This is followed by Rotterdam with 126 positive tests and The Hague with 106. In Almere 79 people tested positive and in Utrecht 49. In twenty municipalities not a single resident tested positive.
The number of deaths rose by eight. It concerns two people from Amsterdam and two people from The Hague, and also residents of the municipalities of Maastricht, Gorinchem, Westerkwartier and Gulpen-Wittem. The fact that these deaths have now been reported does not mean that people have died in the past 24 hours. The registration can also take a while without interference.
37 dead
In the past seven days, RIVM was informed that 37 corona patients have died, an average of about five per day. That is the highest level since June 11. This is to be expected. When the number of corona cases rises, the number of hospitalizations increases a few weeks later, and then so does the number of deaths. Currently, the number of corona cases is falling and the number of new hospital admissions is barely increasing. Then the number of deaths could also start to fall again.
The number of deaths is nothing compared to the situation around the turn of the year, just before the start of the vaccination campaign. Then there were over a hundred reports of deaths a day.
