Nearly 250 migrants rescued in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais in one day

Many migrants tried to cross the Channel, during the night of Friday 19 to Saturday 20 November. 243 found themselves in difficulty off Pas-de-Calais, and were rescued by the maritime prefecture’s operational surveillance and rescue center.

Since the start of the week, more than 500 people have been rescued as they attempted to cross the Channel on makeshift boats. On Wednesday November 17, a thousand migrants reached the English coast, according to the British authorities.

As winter approaches, crossing attempts do not decrease, in increasingly bad weather conditions. Two people died, just between November 2 and 4.
