Nearly 20 Years on NATO Mission, Last German Soldier to Leave Afghanistan

BERLIN – Defense Minister German announced that the country’s troops had been withdrawn completely from Afghanistan after being part of the mission NATO for nearly two decades.

“Tonight, the last soldiers of the Bundeswehr have left Afghanistan safely,” German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer wrote on Twitter.

“After 20 years, our most intensive overseas deployment has come to an end,” he continued.

“This marks the end of a historic chapter – the intense commitment that has challenged and shaped us,” Kramp-Karrenbauer said. Russia Today, Wednesday (30/6/2021).

Kramp-Karrenbauer thanked the more than 150,000 personnel who have served in Afghanistan since Germany joined the US-led NATO invasion of the country in 2001. The Allies launched their campaign shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks to combat the militants. Taliban and al-Qaeda .
