“Bourgogne Franche-Comté had 169,800 green or green jobs in 2016,” said INSEE in a recent publication. That is to say about one in six jobs which contributes to reducing the impact on the environment.
Knowing that a distinction must be made between the 5,500 green jobs on the one hand, which mainly fall within the business sectors linked to the production and sanitation of water and waste treatment, and the 164,300 green jobs in on the other hand, which contribute to the improvement of the environment in the traditional sectors of construction, transport, administration and industry.

Stability
“Between 2011 and 2016, despite a difficult economic situation after the 2008 crisis and a decline in jobs, the share of these green and green jobs remained stable in regional employment as in France”, notes INSEE, stressing that the Jura “is the department where they are most present”.

0.5% green jobs
Always according to the statistical institute , 0.5% of the employed workers of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté exercise a green profession, “the purpose and skills of which contribute to the preservation and improvement of the environment”.
Of these 5,500 green jobs, 41% relate to the sanitation and waste treatment sectors, where workers, waste disposal or wastewater treatment plant agents and garbage collectors work mainly.
Next come jobs in energy production and distribution (35%). Finally, 24% of green jobs relate to the protection of nature and the environment, a sector which mainly employs technicians in wastewater treatment or waste treatment and other waste management team leaders.

15.3% green jobs
Representing 15.3% of total regional employment, the 164,300 green jobs in Bourgogne Franche-Comté concern 76 professions “whose purpose is not environmental, but whose content is evolving to integrate environmental issues into the business activity” . The following are concentrated: construction, transport, administration and industry sectors.
These are, for example, building professionals, trained to apply thermal regulations with a view to reducing the energy consumption of homes. Or even truck or public transport drivers trained in eco-driving in order to reduce the carbon footprint of travel.
Without forgetting, in the industry, in particular the automotive industry, the research and development teams who are working on new materials intended to produce less polluting vehicles and from materials that are more respectful of the environment.

The green pompom in the Jura
With 0.75% green jobs (compared to 0.36 in the Territoire de Belfort), the Jura is the department of the greater region where these are proportionally the most present. Knowing that at the level of the greater region, 40% of green jobs are located in Côte-d’Or and Saône-et-Loire, for only 3.5% in the Territoire de Belfort.
