We take stock of the new coronavirus figures communicated for Belgium this Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
Sars-Cov-2 contaminations and hospitalizations continue to increase slightly, according to statistics from the Sciensano Public Health Institute, published Tuesday morning. The positivity rate is also on the rise.
Between March 12 and 18, 9,953 contaminations with coronavirus were diagnosed on average per day, 25% more than during the previous seven-day reference period. At the same time, some 37,600 tests (+8%) were performed daily on average, for a positivity rate of 28.4% (+3.8%).
This figure for new contaminations was 9,055 on Saturday, 8,614 on Friday, 8,145 on Thursday and 8,075 on Wednesday.
The number of infections had dropped to 5,854 by March 5.
Last Wednesday, the WHO announced the first rise in global infections since January.
The number ofhospitalizations also increased to around 170 (+11%) admissions on average per day between March 15 and 21.
This figure, which had risen to 330 on Wednesday January 26 when the peak of the 4th wave (322 at the beginning of December) had been exceeded, had fallen to 131 on Saturday March 5 before rising again: 151 last Tuesday, 156 on next day, 160 Thursday, 163 Friday and 169 Saturday.
On Monday, 2,427 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 were in hospital (+15%), of which 179 (+1%) were being treated in intensive care.
Between March 12 and 18, some 17 people (-15%) are deceased on average per day from the consequences of the coronavirus.
the reproduction rate of the virus, which measures the degree of contagiousness of the virus, is at 1.04 (-2%). When this indicator is greater than 1, it means that the epidemic tends to accelerate.
