Nearly 1,000 volunteers will train Ukrainian soldiers

– That so many people want to contribute makes me happy. It shows a willingness to defend and a search to do something meaningful in this war. We experience a lot of people asking what they can do, says National Guard Chief and Major General Elisabeth Michelsen in one Press release by the Armed Forces.

The training is called Operation Interflex and is a British-led operation that will help build up forces in Ukraine by training Ukrainian soldiers. The Norwegian mission is led by the National Guard.

The instructors come from Norway, Great Britain, other Nordic countries, Canada and New Zealand.

The first Norwegian contribution arrived in Great Britain in early October this year. The next two contingents will start in the first half of 2023. The Norwegian contribution extends until May next year.

– National Guard soldiers are an asset. They contribute when they can and if they have to. It demonstrates the will to defend we have in Norway, says defense chief Eirik Kristoffersen.
