Near Toulouse, 21 patients in a nursing home affected by gastroenteritis during New Years night

The teams of Samu 31 were called in the night of December 31 to January 1, in the town of Sainte-Foy-d’Aigrefeuille south-east of Toulouse, for digestive symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea) affecting residents of the ‘Ehpad La Cocagne.

The team of the retirement home alerted the Samu around 3:45 am, when 12 people were concerned by vomiting. A doctor from Smur (mobile emergency and resuscitation service) was on site at 4 a.m., accompanied by a team from the Red Cross.

After an initial assessment and the implementation of rehydration measures, the patients were left on site, none requiring hospitalization and each having been seen by a doctor

Upon awakening, this January 1 at 8 am, it was reported that 21 people had been affected. All were put under the supervision of the Ehpad teams in conjunction with the area doctor.

The Regional Health Agency (ARS Occitanie) was also alerted. This Wednesday morning, the teams at the La Cocagne nursing home were busy to warn families and to stop the spread of what could be an epidemic of gastroenteritis. The La Cocagne nursing home has 80 beds.
