A thirty-year-old woman was taken into custody on the afternoon of October 15, in Sélestat, a town not far from Strasbourg.

Earlier in the day, she said she had been stabbed by a man who was trying to steal her bag.

An attack to steal his computer

A little before 9 a.m., a young woman of thirty was walking on Quai de l’Ill when she was violently attacked by a man who was trying to steal her bag, including her laptop.

While she resisted him, the man allegedly gave her a stableaving a slash on one of his hands. He would have fled with his bag.

Following this altercation, the young lady went to the neighboring market, the one located on Boulevard Poincaré. There she was taken care of by fairground workersbefore being taken to the Sélestat hospital center by the firefighters.

“She admitted to having lied”

Problem: when the police started investigationssome details didn’t add up.

“When we started making observations on site, we found a computer heavily degraded in a trash can and a little further away a bag with clothes,” says Commander Christian Wettling.

As a result, the Colmar public prosecutor’s office opened legal proceedings for denunciation of an imaginary crime and the thirty-year-old was placed in police custody.

It was also necessary to calm the rumors of a knife attacker who is said to be lurking in town, particularly around schools, according to Commander Christian Wettling.
