To announce his arrival at the mini-farm ofAnnabelle Fossion, in the countryside of Saint-Georges-Montcocq, near Saint-Lô, it is better to ring the bell than to take out your phone (uncertain network).
The young woman arrives surrounded by a dozen pretty black hens with blue highlights – Cotentine hens – and preceded by the local cat, in a hurry not to miss the entertainment promised by the arrival of a visitor.
An agroecological mini-farm
It is in this pretty corner of the countryside, sheltered from the roads, that Annabelle created, in 2021, with the help of her companion, her mini-farm of aromatic and medicinal plants that it markets under the brand Boujou the plants.
The peasant cultivates some 600 m2 distributed in different places on the farm: around the pond, facing south, on a small hill next to the main building, in small greenhouses, etc.
“These are small areas because the terrain is hilly. “What makes his charm and fits perfectly into Annabelle’s philosophy: preserving biodiversity, respecting the environment and producing less waste possible. An approach which, moreover, is worth to his farm the label Nature & Progress, certifying “an agro-ecological model, respectful of all”.
It is in this Safe Haven that Annabelle, originally from Saint-Lô and who has multiplied agricultural experiences in France but also abroad via the woofing, put down his luggage. She grows thyme, yssop, lemon balm, chamomile, oregano, mint, rosemary, borage, lovage, nasturtium, blueberry, coriander, lemongrass, basil, mallow, verbena and even shiso, a Japanese aromatic plant. “I have a lot of requests for verbena and rosemary,” slips the farmer.
Delicious herbal teas, herbal salt, fresh herbs
Plants that you can find in the herbal teas that Annabelle makes after a stay in the dryer. Digestion, ENT sphere, sleep or menstrual pain: Annabelle’s herbal teas are both good to taste and good for your body. We tested the three mint herbal tea (classic, pepper and round leaf): excellent.
These herbal teas can be found at the restaurant To magic potions, in Saint-Lo. In the baskets of Goat-Rit, in Granville or at Cababio, in Coutances, you can also get some, in addition to its delicious herbal salts.
At restaurants, in the market, at parties
Two restaurants also use its fresh herbs in the kitchen: Les Potionsmagiques again and Eugene’s Canteen, the excellent address of Nicolas Pétillon and Annabelle Varin, in Saint-André-de-l’Epine.
Annabelle is also present every 15 days (odd weeks) at organic little market of Coutances. “And I regularly participate in one-off events. “You will be able to find her at Make Spring, Saturday April 8, in La Haye-du-Puits. Or even at the July rains festival, in Tanu (South-Manche), from July 7 to 9. By appointment, you can also go directly to the farm.
