In Roncherolles-sur-le-Vivier, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime) a demonstration took place this Thursday, March 9, 2023 in front of the village school. The academic inspector refused the discovery class project proposed by the teaching team.
It was to be the school trip that would mark their year. Teachers and students had prepared a discovery class file on the theme of architecture, with visits to different places. The project was to take them in May on the road to the castles of the Loire.
The 60 children and their teachers had the ambition to go to Baugé (Maine-et-Loire) for 5 days. On the program for this discovery class: visit of Clos Lucé and the Château de Chambord.
This school trip was also to serve as cohesion between all levels of the elementary school Les Émouquets : « Next year, the CM2 class is leaving for sixth grade and we won’t have had the opportunity to go on an outing with all our primary school friends. regrets 10-year-old Amber.
For others, it was the adventure that made them dream: “in CM1, we had a school outing in a maze but it was not much, I would have liked to do a longer outing “Explains Raphaël, a CM2 student.
The number of kilometers is precisely one of the arguments of the academic inspection to support its refusal. For the inspector, the 900 kilometers planned over 5 days (between the return transport and the visits) are an obstacle and he considers that this constitutes too long a journey for children of this age (in particular the CPs).
Estelle Galle, representative of parents of students, does not understand this decision “it is an injustice for the children and a disappointment because they have been deprived with the Covid for three years of release. They were all ready to leave for five days among school friends with the teachers. Delighted with the activities and the visits. Today it fell through.”
The mayor of the village also mobilized: “on the Monday of the start of the school year, I called the inspector to tell him of my incomprehension and that of the parents. I advised him to contact them. But he didn’t contact them. regrets Sylvaine Santo, mayor of Roncherolles-sur-le-Vivier.
The parents of students finally obtained an appointment this Friday, March 10 at the academic inspection. If the administration changes its mind, the new challenge will be to find a new transport company.
