One week after the inauguration of the T7 tramway linking Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie to the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu, Sytral announces this Monday, February 8, 2021 the creation of two new tram lines.
The lines T9 and T10 will connect the cities of Vaulx-en-Velin to Villeurbanne and those of Saint-Fons and Vénissieux at Lyon (Rhône).
20 new stations between Villeurbanne and Vaulx-en-Velin
Béatice Vessillier, vice-president of Greater Lyon in charge of town planning, presented this morning the T9 tram project.
This will link Vaulx-en-Velin la Soie to Villeurbanne La Doua, “even Villeurbanne Charpennes” as several members of the Sytral committee hope.
10.5 kilometers of new tracks as well as 20 stations should be created with a budget of 224 millions euros.
New structures will be built in particular above the ring road and the Jonage canal to accommodate this new line which should serve 27,000 and 36,000 travelers per day.
In its desire to let the great Lyonnais speak, Sytral will launch a consultation at the beginning of the summer “To submit the various routes to the opinion of the citizens”.
Saint-Fons, “long forgotten”, soon to be linked
Jean-Charles Kohlhass was responsible for the presentation of the tramway T10.
“This is a very important project because it serves Saint-Fons, forgotten by public transport,” said the vice-president for travel.
Indeed, this new line will link Vénissieux station to the Gerland district in Lyon. A strategic location since the cable car – which is still widely debated – could arrive at this location, emphasizes the elected official with a teasing air.
I am very happy that we can go fast. This is no longer the time to discuss, we must act
15 new stations and 7.4 km of new track are envisaged with an envelope of 230 million euros.
Work could begin as early as 2023, says Sytral.
If these two projects were welcomed by all the members of the Sytral committee, many have pointed out the problem of relay car parks, which do not appear in the reports, which could complicate access to this new infrastructure.
