The oil spill off the coast of the Philippines’ Oriental Mindoro region has now affected the livelihood of over 13,000 farmers and fishermen, and more than 34,500 families, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC). The council gathered on 23 March to discuss the spill, which emanated from the MT Princess Emperess tanker on 28 February. The meeting was attended by 43 government agencies. The Philippine Coast Guard said that its operations to contain and recover oil, as well as to deploy additional floating assets, and placed relevant equipment in the spill region, would continue.
