The European ballot paper of New Democracy was officially announced (15/4), with the result that in the public sphere, but also within the blue party, the candidacies, and especially the names of Freddy Belleri and her Eleonora Meleti.
The choices of these two names have a lot of background and were made, in order for the New Democracy to rally young people, with loose party identifications (Study), but also in the case of Beleris, to stop the intense leakage of blue voters, to parties more to the right of the blue lineup.
Oppositions and disagreements with the Beleris candidacy
The case of the elected mayor of Heimarra has caused a lot of debate in Maximos, as first-class blue-collar executives had opposed such a candidacy, considering that it might create problems in the country’s external relations. Characteristically, they are the names of Giorgos Gerapetritis, who is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but also of the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, who expressed, in the previous period, their disagreements with the Prime Minister.
It is noted that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Papadopoulou, was on the same line as Mr. Gerapetritis. Nevertheless, while a few days before the official announcement of the ruling party’s European ballot, there was information that Mr. Beleris would be outside the blue list, over the weekend, things changed. Specifically, Mitsotakis, being in a panic, due to the opinion poll findings, decided to include the elected mayor of Heimarras, on the European ballot.
Beleris son meeting with government officials
In fact, on Saturday morning (13/4), Petros Beleris met with Minister of State Makis Voridis, government representative Pavlos Marinakis and Prime Minister’s adviser Thanasis Nezis, so that the final decisions could be announced.
It is recalled that Makis Voridis and the former Minister of State Stavros Papastavrou were the ones who, from the first moment, were in favor of Beleris’ candidacy, while the other executives from the LAOS are also “enthusiastic”, namely Adonis Georgiadis and Thanos Pleuris.
Concerns about celebrity nominations
Regarding the case of Eleonora Meleti, which was discussed several days before the official announcement of the European ballot, there is a strong complaint regarding the selection criteria, with which she joined the ND. In fact, behind the scenes, many say that people who have nothing to do with the blue party are being promoted, with the sole purpose of attracting “opportunistic” votes.
Loud message Meimarakis
It is noted that from the presentation of the blue European ballot, at the Athens Conservatory, there was an absence, which was hotly discussed in the wells. THE Vangelis Meimarakis, did not attend the presentation and the official excuse was that he was away on a trip to the USA. And indeed, it is true, that the vice-president of the KO of the EPP was away on a trip to the USA.
But together with Mr. Meimarakis in the USA, he was also found George Autias, who returned to Greece for the presentation. The resounding absence of the vice-president of the KO of the EPP was a message, that he does not identify with the choices of the leadership.
