NBU Head Assures Ukraine Has “Plan B” Amid US Assistance Problems

Amid problems with providing financial assistance from partners, the head of the NBU explained that there is no need to worry yet.

“We remain optimistic – we understand that for a certain period of time Ukraine will have to survive at the expense of its own resources and its own sources,” Pyshny said.

He explained that in 2023, Ukraine resumed the functioning of the internal debt market – and this, according to him, is a very positive moment.

“Together with other measures, this gives us the opportunity to say that we have a “plan B,” said the head of the NBU.

Situation with US assistance for Ukraine

Earlier, the White House said that the United States no longer has the funds to provide Ukraine with new military assistance packages. US President Joe Biden has signed the latest security aid package for which “we have the authority within the means,” according to National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby.

Let us recall that at the end of 2023, Congress was unable to approve US President Joe Biden’s request to allocate more than $100 billion for national security needs, which included more than $60 billion for Ukraine.

The main stumbling block was the Republicans, who refused to support the initiative. They are demanding that the White House include their proposals for strengthening border security in its request.

Let us recall that we previously wrote that Ukraine’s international reserves in 2023 increased by 42.2% or by $12.013 billion to $40.508 billion.
