Hmm.. just when the prices of the GPUs seem to be going back to normal again this news…
Prices are still going down and will probably stay that way, especially in the Netherlands. Energy is a lot of money at the moment, earning back your new video card is impossible (3+ years and the hasrate keeps increasing), in addition, the value of the video card is not preserved as it was the past two years, because the Gerforce RTX 40 series will be released at the end of this year, early next year (and the equivalent of AMD)… In addition, the warm period starts again in the Netherlands, then you really don’t run a heater in the house 24/7 from which you can can’t get rid of heat properly, unless you use an air conditioner (and then your profit evaporates on the electricity costs of the air conditioning).
Of course, people will immediately come forward and say that people with solar panels… Do not have enough power left to power dozens of cards 24/7… So the issue is much more limited there.
IF there will be another period of less availability, it will be when the stove has to be turned on again and people start creatively heating their homes with GPUs that not only act as radiant heaters, but also as miners. I considered doing that last winter…
in any case.. the whole mining phenomenon that swallows energy and raw materials for self-enrichment I really think the disposition of this century until now.. ..
I think that is very succinct, how much energy and pollution do you produce by going to work and doing your thing at work, how much energy is needed for that? In addition, your own consumption… I don’t mine and don’t trade it, but everyone who doesn’t earn money with it, walks away from it and starts talking about the environment and waste…
