NBC names Kevin Kisner new lead golf analyst

PGA Tour Star Kevin Kisner Throws His Hat in the Broadcast Ring as Lead Analyst for NBC Golf Coverage

The world of golf broadcasting has a new leading voice. After a year of rotating analysts, NBC Sports has named four-time PGA Tour winner Kevin Kisner as its lead golf analyst. The move marks a significant shift for NBC, who saw veteran analyst Paul Azinger depart in 2022.

Kisner, 40, will take the reins alongside play-by-play man Dan Hicks, providing expert commentary for major tournaments like the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, the Players Championship, the FedExCup Playoffs, and the Ryder Cup. While stepping into the broadcast booth, Kisner intends to maintain a partial playing schedule on the Tour.

"I’m humbled and grateful to have the chance to sit in the seat that many legends like Johnny Miller and Paul Azinger have sat in before me on NBC,” Kisner said. “I’m looking forward to offering a different voice and adding a new dynamic to the broadcasts, hopefully reaching more fans and telling things like it is. That’s what I think I do best. I’m also excited to continue to compete on the PGA TOUR amongst my peers, which I think will help me to tap into what these guys are really feeling on the course.’”

NBC Sports lead golf producer Tommy Roy echoed Kisner’s enthusiasm, stating, “Kevin always shared frank and honest opinions about the game of golf during our various conversations through the years. Those kinds of opinions and his engaging personality make Kiz a great fit for our broadcast team. He knows these players, he knows this game, and the audience will get to hear more of those opinions and that personality this season.”

Kisner’s rise to the lead role comes after a period of transition for NBC following Azinger’s departure.

The network opted for a committee-based approach to golf coverage in 2023, utilizing a rotating cast of analysts. Kisner’s performance during events like the WM Phoenix Open, the Players Championship, and the FedExCup Playoffs seemingly solidified his position as the network’s chosen voice.

While Kisner may be new to the booth, his on-course experience and outspoken personality position him perfectly to offer insightful commentary and captivating analysis for golf fans nationwide.
