NBC has said it will not broadcast the Golden Globe ceremony in 2022

The US broadcaster NBC has announced that in 2022 it will not broadcast the Golden Globe ceremony, the awards for cinema and TV that in the Hollywood hierarchy come immediately after the Oscars and which are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). The HFPA is an organization made up of journalists who deal with reporting outside the United States what is happening in the American film and entertainment industry: it is very influential but also not very clear, and its activity is full of aspects dull and questionable, lined up by some recent inquiries.
To organize the Golden Globe ceremony, the HFPA has so far relied on the rights that NBC paid it to broadcast it. Without these funds, it is not sure that the ceremony can be organized.

In recent months, the HFPA, which includes some 90 journalists, had received criticism for various aspects of its composition and management, most notably for its very low inclusiveness (there are no black journalists among its members). Other criticisms they concerned its financial management. LLast week, the association approved some internal reforms that include, among other things, increasing its membership by 50 percent within the next year and a half and hiring diversity consultants.

In its statement, NBC said, “We believe the HFPA is motivated to make this major reform. However, a change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we believe HFPA needs time to get it right. For this reason, NBC will not broadcast the Golden Globes in 2022. If the association carries out its reform plan, we are confident that we can return to broadcast the show in January 2023 ”.
