This Wednesday, the NBA validated the implementation of new rules to fight against the resting of stars. But certain big names are not directly affected by this new regulation because they meet very specific criteria. This is particularly the case for LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.
For those who have been living in a cave for the last two days, know that it is no longer possible for an NBA team to rest two “star” players in a single game. These stars will also not be able to be rested during matches broadcast on national television and those of the in-season tournament. However, there are a few exceptions, exceptions which notably concern three of the greatest players in the NBA: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, et Stephen Curry.
As a reminder, every player who has been an All-Star or All-NBA over the last three seasons is considered a “star”. LeBron, KD and Curry are obviously part of this category, and therefore seem directly affected by the new rules on load management. But given their longevity in the NBA, they will actually be exempt.

Indeed, for players aged 35 and over (at the time of the season opening) or who have more than 34,000 minutes on the clock in the regular season or 1,000 regular games + Playoffs, a team can request authorization from the NBA to rest this type of player for a back-to-back game, even if this game is on national television or counts for the in-season tournament.

Kevin Durant : 35 years old, 36,181 regular season minutes, 1,152 total NBA games
Stephen Curry : 35 years old, 1,029 total NBA games
In addition to those three, four other players are also exempt: Chris Paul, Mike Conley, DeMar DeRozan and James Harden.
