NBA – Unvaccinated NBA pros in New York and San Francisco face wage cuts

Los Angeles (SID) – Basketball professionals from the US NBA league are threatened with salary cuts if they cannot participate in games due to a lack of vaccination against the coronavirus. “Any player who chooses not to comply with local vaccination regulations will not be paid for the games they miss,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass told reporters on Wednesday.

In New York and San Francisco, current law does not allow professional athletes to participate in indoor events without vaccination. Accordingly, players who are under contract with clubs in these two cities are threatened with having their salaries effectively halved.

Around three weeks before the start of the NBA, a dispute over the corona vaccination broke out in the league. Around 90 percent of the players are said to have already been vaccinated, but a hard core refuses either to be vaccinated or to disclose their vaccination status.

Vaccination skeptics include star players Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets and Andrew Wiggins from the Golden State Warriors. As things stand, both players cannot play their teams’ home games.
