There was a bitter disappointment with the Los Angeles Lakers’ impressive comeback win over Utah. Anthony Davis sustained an ankle injury and was unable to continue. However, the first test was positive.
“It was very sobering to see how AD went down,” said Lakers coach Frank Vogel after his team’s 106-101 win over the Utah Jazz, frustrated when asked about Davis’ injury. After a strong start, Davis twisted his right ankle badly in the second quarter in a struggle for an offensive rebound.
The 28-year-old fell to the ground with a loud scream and pounded on the court in pain. Davis lay down for a while and was ultimately only able to leave the floor with the support of his teammates, but without putting any weight on his right leg. After that, the Big Man couldn’t go any further.
After all, an X-ray examination gave the first all-clear, the Lakers did not report a broken bone, but “only” a sprained ankle. However, an MRI examination is to follow on Thursday, which will enable an exact diagnosis to be made.
According to the Lakers, Davis will undergo further treatment during the All-Star Break and will be re-evaluated after the weekend. Whether or how long AD will be out is not known at this time.
Before his injury, Davis had scored 17 points in 17 minutes against the Jazz. Over the entire season he averaged 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, but he has already missed 21 games due to a knee injury.
