En the 90s almost at the same level as Michael Jordan was Dominique Wilkins. ‘The Human Highlight Film’ did not win an NBA ring, nor did it sign a career like ‘Air’, but it was one of the few who I discussed the spotlights when flying to the basket. Despite not being a champion with his Hawks, Wilkins developed a career in the NBA that has earned him the status of legend above many of his contemporaries and a place in the Hall of Fame.
And that legend suffered the merciless blows of racism, according to his denunciation in a recent incident in Atlanta.
Despite being a tremendously respected character, and even more so in the Georgia state capital that he proudly elevated for many years in the NBA, his figure is not immune to racist attacks, as the former player himself narrates:
“Over the years, I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the worldBut I never felt prejudged or rejected by the color of my skin, until today in Atlanta at Le Bilboquet. “
‘Nique’ made his complaint through the social network Twitter against the French-style restaurant, Le Bilboquet, located on Peachtree Road in Atlanta. Shortly after, the legend was asked to give more details of the incident, and he agreed:
“When I first arrived they told me there were no tables, but Then they told me that I was not dressed properly. If there were no tables, what did the later comment about my dress come to? “
The problem is that this is not the first time that this restaurant has any complaint for discriminatory treatment due to skin color. And, according to multiple complainants, the dress excuse is the one they most often use to deny a customer a site.
That was pointed at Wilkins and this is what he said: “That is exactly what happened. It would have been nice if they told me there were no tables. But they looked me up and down before I told me and, to add insult to injury, they talked about how my clothes were not appropriate when I was wearing casual designer pants and a shirt. “
Obviously any racist episode is reportable and objectionable but, in this case, it is even more concerning. Wilkins is one of Atlanta’s recognizable and respected citizens for. It is known in any city in the United States and will be stopped by fans in any corner of the world to obtain a signature or a photo of incalculable value.
The incident suffered by ‘Nique’ today is news but the problem, and the saddest thing, is that this type of behavior continues to occur in the world every day.
