Kleber had to leave the field in the 102: 92 against the Grizzlies on Monday evening (local time) in the last quarter and never came back. The Mavericks later reported a sprained left ankle.
It was unclear whether Kleber could play against the Boston Celtics around national team colleague Daniel Theis on Tuesday. “I don’t know. I won’t speculate there,” said Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle.
Kleber played in the first game of the Mavericks after the eight-day forced break due to the onset of winter in Texas for almost 27 minutes and got five defensive rebounds during this time. The Mavericks also scored 13 points more with the 29-year-old on the field than they conceded – no other basketball player in the game had this record as good as Kleber. “This guy is a winner. Just forget about how many points he scores and all that other stuff. He’s a difference player when he’s on the floor,” said Carlisle. Kleber had two points after free throws.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered an unexpected setback in their battle for the top of the Western Conference. After overtime, the Washington Wizards cheered the victory at the Staples Center, their fifth in a row, and are suddenly within striking distance of the play-off spots. Without Anthony Davis (Achilles tendon), the Lakers remain extremely vulnerable.
