The Los Angeles Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs for the second time in just three days.
The current champion of the NBA fought his way to a 109:10 victory thanks to a strong final sprint. The decision was made once again by superstar LeBron James, who closed the sack in the final seconds. The 36-year-old achieved a triple-double: 26 points, eleven rebounds and ten assists were recorded in the end.
The top scorer of the game was Anthony Davis with 35 points. The German international Dennis Schröder played 33 minutes and scored 15 points – including two important threesomes in the closing stages.
The Spurs proved to be tough opponents for the Lakers. However, with 2:35 minutes to go, the hosts’ offensive stalled and LA took over. A 9-0 run sealed the Lakers’ next victory. James made everything clear almost 30 seconds before the end of the game with two points to make it 107: 103.
Lakers coach Frank Vogel spoke of a work victory: “That will happen to us sometimes. In a season with 72 games, some wins will be uglier than others.” Because of the short break between the seasons, they were prepared for a few “ugly nights. The most important thing is that you find a way to win when you are not in top form.”
Suns with the best record in the NBA
The Lakers are thus in the young season with four wins and two losses. The Phoenix Suns (5-1), who just managed to prevail against the Denver Nuggets, have the best record of the NBA to date. The team last started so well in the 2009/10 season.

The match winner at 106: 103 over the Nuggets was superstar Chris Paul, who scored 7.3 seconds before the end to win. In total, the new superstar of the Suns delivered 21 points. Center Deandre Ayton contributed 22 points, as did shooting guard Devin Booker.
The perhaps decisive scene of the game, however, took place shortly before Paul’s goal in the final seconds. Half a minute before the end, a foul was given against Mikal Bridges. Gary Harris was shortly before going to the free-throw line before Suns coach Mounty Williams appealed – on the advice of Paul.
According to the TV pictures, the coach was right and the Suns were able to secure the ball. Paul did the rest.
Doncic shines at Mavs victory
Luka Doncic secured the second win of the season for the Dallas Mavericks: The Slovenian scored 27 points and got 15 rebounds in the 93:83 against Miami Heat. Kleber came off the bench (5 points, 4 rebounds). Doncic showed his best performance so far this season and coach Rick Carlisle is satisfied with the development of his star: “He’s working hard. As far as stamina is concerned, everything is going in a good direction for him.”
Daniel Theis suffered a defeat with the Boston Celtics at 93:96 at the Detroit Pistons without a win to date. The center was in the starting line-up, but only got two points and six rebounds. Isiah Hartenstein (7 points) lost with the Denver Nuggets against the Phoenix Suns (103: 106).
After five defeats, the Washington Wizards of the German national players Isaac Bonga and Moritz Wagner have also arrived in the league. The team from the US capital won the Minnesota Timberwolves 130: 109 even without star access Russel Westbrook, Bonga contributed a rebound in just under five minutes, Wagner was not used.
