NBA: LeBron James charges Lakers to beat Rockets

LeBron James scored his highest score of the season with 37 points and gave the Los Angeles Lakers a 105-104 victory over the Houston Rockets in the NBA with an agonizing final free kick.

One month after turning 39, ‘King James’ continued to amaze the basketball world on a weekend in which he had already scored 35 points on Friday against the Blazers.

The forward once again took the Lakers on his back with the extra motivation of reuniting with Dillon Brooks, who in the last playoffs launched a failed public challenge by declaring that James was “old.”

On that occasion, the Lakers mercilessly kicked the Memphis Grizzlies out of the playoffs, in which Brooks was then active, and this Sunday he once again ruined his defender’s night with a 37-point display (14-19 in field goals), 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

The forward accentuated several of his baskets with some mockery towards Brooks, such as the gesture that he is too short to defend him, and gave him a little push in the third quarter that cost him a technical foul.

Brooks, one of the main ‘villains’ of the league, had a good performance with 24 points and 6 triples but could not prevent James from killing the game for the home team in the final stretch.

With his teammate Anthony Davis (27 points and 10 rebounds) sent off for fouls with one minute remaining, James provided an assist for a key triple by Austin Reaves and later thwarted Houston’s comeback led by Alperen Sengun (23 and 10).

With a tie at 104, James was fouled with only 1.9 seconds on the clock and, after missing the first shot, he did not lose his composure to score the second and give the Lakers their fifth victory in the last six games.

Brooks “is a great competitor,” James said afterward. “This is competition, I like it and I need it.”
