After beating the Los Angeles Lakers 54-43 in the first half, they were blown 51-21 in the third quarter and the Dallas Mavericks pulled off a 124-115 victory on Sunday.
The Mavericks’ 51 points in the third quarter tied a franchise record for most points scored in a quarter. They made nine of 13 shots from downtown in the neighborhood.
Luka Doncic has been true to form with 32 points, nine rebounds and nine assists and has been well supported by teammates Christian Wood and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Wood was used in the starting five for the fifth consecutive game after starting the season primarily in the sixth man role. He took the opportunity to smear the scoresheet with 30 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks. Hardaway added 26 points and six rebounds.
LeBron James stood out with 38 points, 18 in the first half and 20 after halftime. He also had six rebounds and five assists.
James got off to a flying start, reaching 10 points by himself before the Mavericks did the same.
Russell Westbrook and Austin Reaves scored 17 and 16 points respectively off the bench for the Lakers (13-20), who lost their fourth straight game.
For the Mavericks (18-16) this is the third consecutive victory.
