The Los angeles lakers will not be holding a special tribute to Kobe Bryant on the first anniversary of his death.
The former Lakers star and his daughter Gianna were among those tragically killed in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles on January 26, 2020.
According to ESPN, the Lakers won’t be paying tribute to Bryant during their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night or the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.
This is in order to keep public focus away from the details of the helicopter crash and cause more trauma for the Bryant family.
“As we approach his one-year anniversary, it saddens our hearts to actually come to the realisation that he’s gone,” Lakers star Anthony Davis said after their recent game against Chicago Bulls. “I know I still have trouble with it, you still just can’t believe it.”
“Man, it’s a saying that time heals all,” LeBron James noted. “And as devastating and as tragic as it was and still is to all of us involved with it, only time. And it takes time. Everyone has their own grieving process.”
“I’m not comfortable talking about it,” said Marc Gasol. “I’m sorry. Still to this day, I have never really talked about it.”
