He won an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, and is averaging more than 27 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game this season
The Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement to trade Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks of Luka Doncic days after the controversial escort requested to be transferred.
Irving asked out after failing to accept a contract extension with Brooklyn. Talks between the Nets and Mavs “revved up” this Sunday.
Irving, who won an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, is averaging more than 27 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game this season, carrying Brooklyn’s offensive load since a knee injury sidelined Kevin Durant.
But his four-season stint in Brooklyn has been marked by controversy. He lost dozens of games last season for his refusal to be vaccinated against covid-19. This season he was suspended for eight games after a social media post referring to a film containing anti-Semitic themes. In the end, he ended up apologizing and donating half a million to organizations “that work to eradicate intolerance.”
In February 2017, he said on the ‘Road Trippin’ podcast that the Earth is flat, that John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated because he wanted to “end the banking mafia in the world” and that the CIA killed Bob Marley for promoting peace. In the months that followed, he vaguely retracted some of his claims and encouraged people “to get informed.”
In total, Irving has played fewer than 150 games in the past four seasons. However, there is no doubt that his skills could complement those of the Slovenian star from Dallas. Luka Doncicwho is averaging 33.4 points per game.
With a record of 28-26, the Mavericks are sixth in the Western Conference after losing to the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, a game that Doncic missed due to injury.
