The Golden State Warriors remain the best team in the NBA thanks to a sovereign victory. The Cleveland Cavaliers also surprise at the New York Knicks, with Ricky Rubio making the game of his life. Franz and Moritz Wagner become a stumbling block for Utah Jazz with the Orlando Magic.
Toronto Raptors (6-5) – Brooklyn Nets (7-3) 103:116 (SPIELBERICHT)
New York Knicks (6-4) – Cleveland Cavaliers (7-4) 109:126 (BOXSCORE)
- It was a magical evening for Ricky Rubio, the Spaniard put on 37 points (career high) and 10 assists from the bench against the Knicks. The point guard sank his first eight threes in a row, only the ninth and last attempt did not go through the trap, whereby the WM-MVP narrowly missed the setting of the record (Latrell Sprewell and Ben Gordon each hit 9/9 3P).
- It was Rubio who gave Cleveland a double-digit cushion after the break after Collin Sexton was no longer able to participate due to a knee injury. In the third quarter Rubio marked four triples, Cleveland won the section with 33:18, the Knicks couldn’t get closer than 6 points.
- Due to the Rubio gala, it almost went under that No. 3 pick Evan Mobley made his best game so far. The Big Man had 26 points (11/15 FG), 9 rebounds, 5 assists and with +26 posted by far the best plus-minus of all players. In addition, the 20-year-old hit two of his four threesomes and fit seamlessly into the game of the Cavs. The guests sank 54 percent (19/35) of their triples, and Jarrett Allen (18, 17 rebounds) dominated the zone.
- The Knicks got off to a good start thanks to Evan Fournier (11 out of 15 points in the first quarter), but didn’t hit much after that. Without Kemba Walker (break) Derrick Rose (17, 5 assists) slipped into the starting five, the guard was next to Julius Randle (19, 7 assists) still the best kink. RJ Barrett (6, 3/13 FG), however, could not confirm his good early form.
Orlando Magic (3-8) – Utah Jazz (7-3) 107:100 (BOXSCORE)
- The Utah Jazz stumbled in Orlando after the bitter defeat the day before in Miami. Jazz ran out of steam against Magic in the fourth quarter, while the young Magic made up a 13-point deficit in the final section. Man of the evening was Cole Anthony, who with 33 points (13/20 FG) and two midrange jumpers brought Orlando to winning ways in crunchtime.
- The jazz started slowly after the tough game in Miami, Orlando tried to take advantage of this with fast breaks, including Franz Wagner scoring in transition after a successful jazz graduation. The hosts quickly led by 15 points because Utah stayed freezing. Only one of 14 three-pointers found the target in the first section.
- This didn’t really get better until the break, but the jazz attacked the basket more and even turned the game over until the change. The lead grew to 13 points, but Anthony and Wendell Carter Jr. (22, 4/7 threesomes, 15 rebounds) made the comeback in the fourth quarter, RJ Hampton (8) closed with a threesome 21 seconds before the end on it.
- Franz Wagner showed good approaches again and courageously attacked Rudy Gobert a few times. Once he was able to eat the FrenchAnother time, however, the Berliner was blocked away. In 32 minutes 10 points (4/10 FG), 4 rebounds and 4 assists were noted. Brother Moe Wagner played the last three minutes of the first half and converted his only throw, a threesome.
- Utah, on the other hand, sank only 19 percent of the distance throws, especially Donovan Mitchell 21 (8/24 FG, 2/12 threesome) and Jordan Clarkson (6, 2/11 3P) did not hit a flower pot. The best actor in Jazz was still Rudy Gobert with 21 counters, 15 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks, but in the end the Frenchman was powerless against the hot Magic shoot.
