VIBO VALENTIA, 16 DECEMBER 2016 – 27 points from Danilo Gallinari lead the Denver Nuggets to victory against Portland, with a score of 132-120. Damian Lillard‘s 40 points and 10 assists, by far his best, were not enough for the Blazers to beat the home team who, with 132 points, set their new season high. [MORE]
Gallinari has shown that he has gained the leadership on the field that makes him a fundamental player for the Denver team. Thanks to Gallinari’s play, the Nuggets led the game from the start, and were good at never allowing Portland to get back into the game, despite the 63 points from the Lillard-McCollum duo.
“The teammates were good at involving me in the best way every time I was free – commented the Italian on the sidelines of the match – they are all excellent passers”.
Gallinari’s NBA career could be at a turning point. Gallinari, at the moment, is already the highest paid man on the team, with a contract worth 15 million dollars for this season. According to industry rumors, Gallinari could be released a year early to seek a new adventure as a free agent, where his name would be one of the heaviest.
Denver, however, will have to deal with the new provisions of the collective agreement which introduce the figure of the “designated veteran”, two salary exceptions that allow teams to lock down their stars and the Italian could be one of them. Gallinari could renegotiate his contract with the Nuggets, on a long-term perspective, to over 20 million per season.
