Atlanta. The Dallas Mavericks have certainly presented themselves differently this season opener: The team of Maximilian Kleber from Würzburg started the new NBA season with a bitter 87: 113 bankruptcy against the Atlanta Hawks. Kleber contributed three points to the premiere of the new coach Jason Kidd.
The Texans could hardly find a remedy. The decision was made in the third quarter when the Hawks turned a 51:44 into an 86:64 at halftime. One reason for the appearance of the Mavericks was the weak throwing rate. Only 31 of the 93 litters found their way into the basket from the game – but that was once Kidd’s specialty.
Luka Doncic with a weak start
Top star Luka Doncic had a bad evening in his 200th NBA game for Dirk Nowitzki’s former club, only got 18 points and 11 assists, but also made five turnovers. His co-star Kristaps Porzingis fared similarly. Dallas started the game with a 10-2 lead, but the Atlanta Hawks proved that they start the season with a strong and deep squad. Dallas had to fight hard for every point and deservedly lost in the end.
“I got the impression that we got good throws, the balls just didn’t go in,” said coach Kidd, commenting on the defeat after the game. Top star Doncic spoke of a “terrible game. But we still have 81 games to go. No reason to worry.”
