It seems that playing 82 games -at least- in just over five months is not enough for the NBA.
So commissioner Adam Silver finished formatting a new tournament, to be played in the middle of the regular season.
The so-called NBA Cup will take place in November in Las Vegas and will distribute 18 million dollars in prizes. The players on the team that wins the title will win $500,000 each and the finalists $200,000. For the members of the teams that remain in the semifinals, 100,000 and for those that fall in the quarterfinals, 50,000.
From the organization they promise that it will be up to the best sporting events in the United States.
THE GROUPS
The format will be similar to that of a World Cup. There will be a group stage, a quarterfinal, a semifinal and the final match.
Western Conference:
Group A: Memphis Grizzlies , Phoenix Suns , Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz y Portland Trailblazers.
Group B: Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Nueva Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks y Houston Rockets.
Group C: Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.
Eastern Conference
Group A: Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers y Detroit Pistons.
Group B: Milwaukee Bucks, Nueva York Knicks, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards y Charlotte Hornets.
Group C: Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls y Orlando Magic.
Regarding the new tournament, Silver stated: “For 15 years it was thought of adding a competition to the NBA. This is not a new concept in the sport. In international football it is a tradition for teams to play two or three competitions at the same time”.
Season, NBA Cup, All-Star game and some of the players Olympic Games, World Cups, and knockout tournaments with their national teams… At first glance it seems like a lot, but in the United States they know how to organize tournaments. It is necessary to see if this one does not fall into the exception.
