The NBA wants to curb comments from players and agents related to failure to perform “contractually required services in the event of a trade.” The American competition wants to get out of the way of statements such as those made by Damian Lillard and his agent Aaron Goodwinwho demanded the transfer of the point guard on July 1.
The player publicly stated that he wanted to leave the Portland Trail Blazers and that he expected a negotiation with the Miami Heat. Even the basketball player’s own representative discouraged other franchises, clearly betting on landing in Florida. The NBA called both to order so that the situation does not repeat itself.
In information obtained by ‘ESPN’, Goodwin “denied having declared or indicated to any team that Lillard would refuse to play for them.” Both Lillard and his agent ultimately said they would honor the contract regardless of where he was traded.
