Russian hockey coach Andrei Nazarov has been harsh about the current situation, when Latvia is considering the possibility of holding next year’s world hockey championship either with another country or refusing to organize the competition altogether.

It has already been reported that Latvia has decided to start negotiations with the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) on hosting the World Hockey Championship in another country planned for 2021 in Belarus. As Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš revealed, Latvia wants to host the 2021 World Championships in Riga, however, taking into account the situation in Belarus, the Prime Minister does not see the possibility that Latvia could host this championship together with Belarus.

“Let us call on the IIHF to find another country instead of Belarus. If the federation [IIHF] the situation in Belarus will still not change, the government could decide that Latvia will not participate in the 2021 hockey championship, ”Kariņš revealed yesterday.

“I read the news that Latvia has started negotiations [ar IIHF] on the relocation of the 2021 World Cup in Belarus, ”Championat quotes Nazarov as saying. “It simply came to our notice then. It turns out that the former USSR country and our peaceful and beloved neighbor Latvia want to steal the world championship for Belarus. If Minsk “Dinamo” refuses to participate KHL, then the World Cup will definitely be stolen from the Belarusians. “

“Belarus now has a disordered not only hockey but also a political system,” Nazarov continued. “One day people are arrested in this country, but the next they are released. What is happening now is completely incomprehensible. It is a pity to watch this, because we are all brothers and we should settle things peacefully to find common ground. There should be no violence here and it is worth remembering that President Alexander Lukashenko has already appealed to the Protestants. “

“The worst thing is that Lukashenko is receiving recommendations to withdraw Dynamo from the KHL,” Nazarov continued. In my opinion, Dinamo should never leave KHL, because hockey is the # 1 sport in Belarus. I can’t imagine KHL without the Minsk team and the crowds of their fans at home games. ”

Protests began in major Belarusian cities after the presidential election, which the opposition claims were due to the falsification of election results. Police have even used tear gas, rubber bullets and noise grenades to fight the crowd.

Alexander Lukashenko, the current head of state, won 80.08% of the vote in the election, but independent observers do not believe in such an outcome. The unrest in Belarus continues, moreover a kind of protest has also decided to activate the Minsk “Dinamo” fan club, which has refused to attend the Belarusian national team and “Dinamo” games, as well as to organize fan activities.
