Nazaret Rodrigo takes up the post of Director General of European Affairs of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha

Tomelloso native Nazaret Rodrigo has assumed the position of general director of European Affairs of the regional governmentas approved this Tuesday by the Governing Council. Nazaret Rodrigo has been a councillor at Tomelloso City Council since 2019 and has extensive experience in public management, teaching and coordination and development of projects and campaigns.

He Second Vice President of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, José Manuel Caballero, He welcomed him and assured that “Rodrigo will put his talent, experience and commitment into this task to continue strengthening the ties that unite the region with the European institutions.”

For her part, Nazaret Rodrigo has stressed that she faces this task “with great enthusiasm and motivation.” She has stated that “it is a tremendous responsibility that will bring out the best in me to represent Castilla-La Mancha as it deserves before the European institutions” and has indicated that she is tremendously grateful for the trust placed in her.

This appointment replaces Virginia Marco, who has held this position since 2017 and who assumes new responsibilities linked to the European institutions from which she will also continue to contribute to strengthening the relations of Castilla-La Mancha with the European Union.

Caballero thanked Marco for the work, commitment and professionalism with which she has carried out her work as Director General of European Affairs. She also conveyed her best wishes for this new stage that begins “in which I am sure she will work with the same success and involvement that she has had during her time in this regional Executive.”

It is worth remembering that The Directorate General for European Affairs of the regional government reports to the Second Vice-Presidency and works with the Office of Castilla-La Mancha before the European UnionIts main functions are to act as a liaison body with the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union and to monitor the decision-making process in the institutions and advisory bodies of the European Union. It also includes assisting the regional government in its dialogue with the European institutions and with the other regions and local entities of other Member States with which Castilla-La Mancha establishes collaboration or partnership relations in defence of common interests; as well as with other networks and forums relevant to the autonomous community in the field of the European Union.

Caballero recalled that the main objective set for this legislature in terms of European Affairs is to bring European institutions closer to Castilla-La Mancha and vice versa. “We want Europe to contribute even more to the development and well-being of our region and we also want Castilla-La Mancha to count more and more in Europe.”

In this regard, he stressed that Rodrigo will work on strengthening the region’s relations with European institutions, as well as monitoring the political and legislative agenda that may affect the reality and interests of the region.
