Gold starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara has already done a pre-release recording for a Malayalam film this year. Sources in the team say that the film has already earned Rs 50 crore from pre-booking, OTT and satellite rights as well as its overseas rights.
In fact, the makers of the film, Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames are doing everything to make sure that the film is also a box office winner as it will be released in more than 1,300 theaters on 1st December around the world. Over 6,000 plays by director Alphonse Putrin will be screened on the first day, a record for a post-pandemic Malayalam film.
Indeed, Gold will also be the first Malayalam film to be released in Israel and Iceland. The filmmakers have announced that the film will be released in over 25 European countries, including the UK, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Denmark, Moldova and Estonia.
Prithviraj Sukumaran in the Golden Still Life
The film is already the actor’s biggest release of Prithviraj and he has done most of the pre-release work for the film starring Jana Gana Man. The star who is also co-producer of the film is looking to wrap up the great year after two of his three film releases – Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva – became blockbusters this year.
Prithviraj started the year with his second directorial Bro Daddy which was a direct OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar. Next year he will work again with Mohanlal in Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer. The upcoming film will also benefit from the large market that gold will create.
Incidentally, Lucifer pioneered the expansion of Malayalam film markets abroad until the pandemic brought these efforts to a halt. With gold and big-budget films on the way like Dulquer Salman’s King of Kotha, Mohanlal’s Empuraan and Mammootty’s Christopher, the industry is hoping to resume its efforts in full swing.
