PiS may announce the name of its candidate in the presidential elections on November 11. Everything rhymes with each other in this story: since it is supposed to be Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, a historical anniversary and the Independence March (he declares that he will take part in it, just like Jarosław Kaczyński) it is an obvious opening.
Jarosław Kaczyński likes Karol Nawrocki
Few people remember that Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński saw their candidate in Janusz Kurtyka, who headed the Institute of National Remembrance until his tragic death in Smolensk. If PiS is looking for symbols, political intuition suggests that on November 10, it is worth turning our eyes to the south: the historian came from Krakow and the president is buried there.
Let’s be honest: Jarosław Kaczyński’s personal sympathy is of great importance. Research carried out by PiS – “Wirtualna Polska” reported in June – showed that the candidate should be a man, and the key issue should be security. It is difficult to say which came first: the egg or the chicken, but Kaczyński found a “young, tall, impressive and handsome” favorite in the race for the nomination in Nawrocki – a former footballer and boxer.
Moreover, already in 2008, Jarosław Kaczyński attacked the concept of a permanent exhibition at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk from the parliamentary podium, and taking over the facility was one of the election promises of the right wing – it was implemented by Minister Gliński, and the expected changes in the exhibition were introduced by none other than Nawrocki (until 2017, a historian at the Gdańsk branch of the Institute of National Remembrance). How important it was is evidenced by the fact that the PiS program of 2019 included a provision about maintaining the course towards the Museum.
