Nawawi Pomolango Criticizes 2024 Presidential Candidates’ Debate on Corruption Eradication

Jakarta

Temporary chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Nawawi Pomolango opened his voice regarding the first debate in the 2024 presidential election yesterday which discussed the issue of corruption. Nawawi believes that none of the three presidential candidates’ ideas regarding eradicating corruption are interesting.

“Last night I went along because I was invited to watch the coachman debate, oh sorry, presidential candidate debate. I’m tired from here defend “I want to go there and hear whether there is a concept for eradicating corruption that he can offer,” said Nawawi in a discussion on World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2023 at Istora Senayan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (13/3/2023).

The presidential candidate debate was held at the KPU building on Tuesday (12/12) evening. The first presidential debate in the 2024 presidential election carried the theme ‘Law, Human Rights, Government, Eradicating Corruption and Strengthening Democracy’.

Nawawi assessed that there were no new ideas presented by the three presidential candidates in the debate on corruption. He said the presidential candidates only stated that they would strengthen the KPK without explaining further how to strengthen it.

“The language is just eradicating corruption, strengthening the Corruption Eradication Commission. But what it looks like is nothing, that’s what I am sorry Why should traffic jams yesterday,” said Nawawi.

Nawawi further said that he was still optimistic about changes within the KPK. This change, said Nawawi, stems from the integrity of KPK employees who he believes still remain.

“If there is any remaining optimism that I said earlier about the integrity of KPK people, I believe it is still there,” concluded Nawawi.
