Navy Vet Volunteers at LA VA: Giving Back to Fellow Veterans

Dedicated Veteran Celebrates 11 Years of Service at LAACC

For over a decade, Joseph⁤ “Joe” Huber, a Navy veteran, has been a beacon of dedication and compassion ⁢at the Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center (LAACC). His unwavering commitment to volunteering has touched countless lives within the VA healthcare system.

Huber’s journey ‍began in October 2011, shortly after‍ his ⁢four years of service in the Navy aboard the⁣ USS Planning. He initially volunteered three days a week, providing invaluable office‌ support to the Center for Growth & civic Engagement (CDCE) ⁣staff, alongside a team of fellow long-term‍ volunteers. His dedication has grown over the years, and now he volunteers nearly every day.

When ⁤asked about his favorite ‌aspect of volunteering, Huber shared, “It’s very rewarding, working with⁤ all the Veterans, and very ⁣interesting.”

His commitment extends beyond the ⁢LAACC.Prior to his current role, Huber volunteered at a ⁣clothing memorial, assisting 170-180 clients monthly by providing essential clothing items‌ such as underwear, socks, pants, and shoes. This⁣ experience further ‍highlights his compassionate nature ⁤and dedication to serving others.

Pamela Keith, Chief of the Center for⁤ Development and Civic Engagement, expressed profound gratitude for Huber’s ⁢contributions. “The VA LAACC CDCE is pleased to acknowledge⁤ the outstanding contributions of our long-standing volunteer, Joseph “Joe” Huber,” Keith stated. “For 11 years, Joe has consistently‍ demonstrated⁤ exceptional dedication and⁤ professionalism. His warm and welcoming personality, coupled⁢ with his remarkable ability to connect⁢ with everyone he meets, ⁤makes him an invaluable asset ‌to our team. He’s been a helping hand, and a source of positive energy for our Veterans and staff ⁢alike. We are deeply grateful for his tireless efforts.”

huber’s favorite fellow⁤ volunteer is Ron Hughes,‍ an Army ⁤veteran who has also dedicated years to serving at the ⁣LAACC.The camaraderie ‍among the volunteers is ⁢evident in huber’s ‍description of them as “all brothers.”
