Mexico City. The Marine Plan and the Plan for Assistance to Society in Cases of Emergency of the National Guard are activated in the states of Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa, in view of the passage of the tropical storm Ileana.
The Mexican Navy (Semar) reported that in view of the Hurricane and Cyclone Season on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, the Marine Plan was activated, so the Naval Commands of La Paz and Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur, activated the Marine Plan in its Relief Phase; while in Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, Puerto Peñasco, Sonora and Topolobampo, Sinaloa, it was activated in its Prevention Phase, in view of the possible damage that could be caused by the passage of the meteorological phenomenon.
To assist the affected population, Navy personnel are prepared with vehicles, ships, boats, canine teams, specialized equipment and aircraft.
It should be noted that the Fourth Naval Region, based in La Paz, Baja California Sur, is operating a temporary shelter at the “Gral. José María Garma González” Secondary School in the “El Centenario” Ejido, where it will house citizens in the event of possible damage from the passage of Tropical Storm Ileana.
On the other hand, given the intense rains caused by the tropical storm IleanaThe National Guard also implements its Plan for Assistance to Society in Cases of Emergency in the state of Baja California Sur.
In coordination with Civil Protection teams from the three levels of government, “to assist communities in municipalities such as Loreto, La Paz and Los Cabos, where the rain caused flooding, obstruction of communication routes, fallen trees and urban structure, in addition to the temporary loss of electricity.”
Information from the corporation indicates that the National Guard has provided support for the recovery of at least 12 cargo vehicles, private vehicles and motorcycles that were swept away by the currents of water and mud formed in different avenues; in the same way, the Communication Route Security sections of the National Guard participated in the clearing of highway sections, such as La Paz–Los Barriles or Los Cabos–San José del Cabo, affected by mud and rocks.
Over the next few days, National Guard personnel will “provide support to the population in the removal of debris, mud and clean-up work, in addition to patrolling and surveillance actions.”
