A high-ranking Indonesian military official announced on Monday,January 6,2025,that three members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) are under inquiry for their alleged involvement in a shooting that resulted in the death of a 48-year-old man at a toll road rest area in Tangerang.
Rear Admiral Sasmita, the Commander of the indonesian Navy’s Military Police (Danpuspomal), revealed key details during a press conference at the Koarmada Headquarters in Central Jakarta. He stated, “It was one person who did the shooting, he shot the second. Becuase according to the CCTV results, it was also the one who was beaten earlier, the one who had just come out of the toilet was beaten up so there was a commotion there, it was the members who shot.So it wasn’t two members who shot but ‘one member shot adn we have secured all the members.'”
The shooting, according to Admiral Sasmita, occurred outside a minimarket, a detail corroborated by CCTV footage. He clarified,”‘So two people were shot by one person, the position was not inside, not outside.'” The three TNI members involved are identified as Sertu AA, Sertu RH, and Head Class Chief BA, with two from Kopaska Fleet I and one from KRI Bontang.
Admiral Sasmita emphasized that while the three individuals are colleagues, the investigation has yet to determine specific roles in the incident. He explained, “‘From the results of the investigation that we have carried out so far, we have entered into an investigation. So the roles of these three people are actually colleagues. So there is no role in this role, oh this as executor, this as this, no.'” Further, he revealed a familial connection between the shooter and the victim of the initial assault, stating, “‘In fact, the perpetrator who was beaten earlier is a relative. So this perpetrator is his uncle, AA’s uncle. The person in the video who comes out of the toilet and is blocked is the uncle in question.'”
The investigation is ongoing, and Admiral Sasmita stated that there is currently no evidence linking the TNI members to allegations of car theft. he added, “‘So, whether his role in the crime was as a custodian, or as a backer for the results of the investigation, it is still yet to be discovered. But if later in the development there are elements that can prove that, that will be the investigation process. Give us time for that.'” The weapon used in the shooting was confirmed to be a service weapon assigned to Sertu AA due to his role as an aide. Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata, Commander of the indonesian Armed Forces, confirmed, “‘The weapon is an inventory weapon that is attached because AA’s position is ADC, adjutant, so when he got the task the SOP for the weapon was attached.'”
The incident began with an altercation between the deceased, IA, and others, leading to the tragic shooting. The investigation continues to unravel the full sequence of events and determine the precise responsibilities of each individual involved.
A seemingly simple rental car case has spiraled into a complex investigation involving alleged fraud and a fatal shooting in Indonesia. the incident centers around a Honda Brio, initially rented by a U.S. entity, whose GPS tracking revealed discrepancies from the original rental agreement. Two of the three GPS trackers were found to be deactivated, prompting further investigation.
investigators discovered the car had been sold multiple times after its initial rental. The car was allegedly transferred to an individual, identified only as IH, who is currently a fugitive. IH is suspected of creating fraudulent identification documents to facilitate the sale of the vehicle.
the car was reportedly sold to RH for 23 million Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $1,500 USD) before being resold to AA, an Indonesian Navy soldier, for 40 million Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $2,600 USD).
The situation escalated on Thursday, February 1st, when IA and associates located the car at a rest area on the Tangerang Toll Road, kilometer 45. An altercation ensued when IA and his colleagues attempted to reclaim the vehicle, culminating in a shooting that resulted in the death of an individual identified only as HE.

This week’s news cycle has been dominated by the shocking story of an Indonesian Navy soldier allegedly involved in a fatal shooting over a rental car dispute. Too help us understand the intricacies of this complex case, we spoke with Dr. Anya Prasojo, a leading Indonesian legal expert with extensive experience in criminal law and military justice.
The Genesis of the Tragedy
Senior Editor: dr. Prasojo, thank you for joining us. This case seems to have spiralled rapidly from a seemingly straightforward rental car issue. Can you shed some light on the chain of events leading up to the shooting?
Dr. Prasojo: Certainly. At its core, the situation appears to have originated with a rented Honda Brio. The original rental contract was apparently breached, with the GPS trackers being deactivated. This seemingly minor infraction took an unexpected turn when the car was found to have changed hands multiple times after its initial rental, raising red flags about potential fraud and theft.
Senior Editor: Indeed, it seems the car’s journey became increasingly convoluted.
Dr. Prasojo: Precisely. The individual identified only as IH is believed to have orchestrated the fraudulent sale of the vehicle using falsified documents. The car then went through several owners, ultimately ending up in the possession of an Indonesian Navy soldier, Sertu AA. This is where the tragic incident unfolds.
Senior Editor: The involvement of Indonesian Navy personnel adds a meaningful layer of complexity to this case. Can you explain the implications of this military aspect?
Dr. Prasojo: The involvement of active-duty soldiers, notably from a branch as prestigious as the Navy, certainly raises serious concerns. Military personnel are held to a higher standard of conduct and discipline.
Senior Editor: So, what legal avenues are open for investigation and potential prosecution?
Dr. Prasojo: The Indonesian Navy’s Military Police are leading the investigation, which is a crucial step. They are obligated to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry, irrespective of the individual’s rank or affiliation. Depending on the findings, the suspects could face a range of charges, including theft, fraud, assault, and potentially homicide.
Senior Editor:
Given the level of public interest in this case, how significant is transparency during the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings?
Dr. Prasojo: Transparency is paramount in cases of this nature. The public has a right to know how the investigation is being conducted, the evidence gathered, and any decisions made by the authorities. This helps maintain public trust in the justice system.
Moving Forward
Senior Editor: Dr. Prasojo, your insights are invaluable. What can we expect to see in the coming days and weeks as this case progresses?
Dr. Prasojo: We can expect the investigation to continue, with a focus on gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and determining the specific roles each individual played in the events.
Given the complexity of this case,it is crucial that the authorities follow due process and ensure a fair and unbiased investigation. It’s essential not only to bring those responsible to justice but also to address any systemic issues that may have contributed to this tragedy.
Senior Editor: Thank you for sharing your expertise with us today,Dr. Prasojo.
Dr. Prasojo: My pleasure.
