Announced a few months ago, the application allowing the purchase of metro tickets or the recharging of a Navigo pass from an iPhone is now available.
Purchasing tickets or recharging Navigo passes on the iPhone is now possible
Expected for February 2021, the possibility of reloading your Navigo pass or buying tickets from your iPhone will have had a little advance, since it has been available since January 23, 2021. Thus, after Android smartphone users, iPhone owners will be able to top up their Navigo pass from their phone.
The “Vianavigo” application, renamed for the occasion “Île-de-France Mobilités”, will thus allow travelers to transform their phone into a terminal for purchasing or recharging their Navigo pass and / or their bus and metro tickets. . Via NFC technology and Apple Pay, monthly, weekly and daily recharges will be within easy reach of users.
A purchasing terminal that does not allow the opening of barriers
If the application is available on the Appstore, it is currently only compatible with iPhone 7 or older updated with version iOS 13. The latest iPhones have appeared on the market, the XR, XS and XS max are not yet compatible with this new feature. An incompatibility for its models which will only be short-lived according to Île-de-France Mobilités.
Unlike Androids, iPhones will not be able to act as a ticket for the moment. So, if the Apple smartphone allows you to recharge or buy your ticket, it will not allow the barrier to be opened. An impossibility which is due to two main concerns, the first is technical and the second, much more important, is financial. Indeed, Apple and Île-de-France Mobilités are still negotiating for the implementation of this system on iPhones.
