You don’t have to call in a funeral director when a loved one dies. That is nowhere in the legislation, but there is a lot of regulation involved when it comes to funerals.
For example, you must submit a death declaration to the Registry Office. You may also only transport the remains in a hearse. And for cremation, a law doctor must be appointed.
