Navigating Energy Upheaval: Michael Howard Discusses Solutions for Global Energy Crisis – Interview with TVNET+

The pandemic, the war started by Russia in Ukraine, the greed of oil-producing countries, etc. have contributed to more than one upheaval in the energy sector in recent years. We have experienced both a wild jump in the prices of gas and electricity, and we have also worried whether gas and other fuels will be able to be purchased in sufficient quantities to provide heating and electricity in winter. What can be done so that various shocks in the world affect us less, and whether the right answer is energy independence or cooperation, says Michael Howard, chairman of the World Energy Council, in an interview with TVNET+.

We need to constantly think about how we can be more energy efficient, how we can use cleaner renewable energy, how we can use nuclear power, etc. as options. But there are still quite a few people on this planet who rely on coal and wood and of course oil as fossil fuels to heat their homes and cook etc. While it’s easy for us to say “Okay, let’s get off fossil fuels!”, it’s much harder to do in reality.

There needs to be a plan to get off fossil fuels, but we also need to recognize that doing so without really thinking through the issues will create a huge injustice for many people.
