Jakarta –
Yamaha XMAX Connected is invited to tour the island of Sumatra. You can sample a number of updates from this large 250 cc scooter in the title Navigate to The MAX: Tour de Sumatra.
The detikOto team along with other media crews had the opportunity to try XMAX Connected as far as 128.6 kilometers. The trip is carried out for one day.
The paths traversed by the touring agenda this time were very diverse. The journey begins towards One Tree Hills, the highest point in the Simalem Resorts area. The path is dominated by uphill contours with uneven rocky characters.
The Yamaha XMAX Connected riders were then invited to see the beauty of one of the highest waterfalls in Indonesia, Sipiso-piso, then headed to Cappadocia Ankara Turkey a la Karo, to visit the Medan city icon, Maimun Palace. The trip was closed by delivering XMAX Connected at Central Yamaha Medan. So what’s it like to drive? The following is the editorial review of detikOto.
Impressions and driving position
This XMAX Connected design carries status new with refreshments in the front, side and stern areas. This brand-new XMAX looks sportier on the headlights with the ‘X’ character.
Apart from the updated appearance, the entire lighting system in the latest generation of XMAX has also adopted LED technology, including the hazard lights. The newest XMAX also has ‘ears’ in the area windshieldwhich turned out to function as a turn signal display.
Bringing XMAX, you have to be prepared to pay attention to people on the road. Because the XMAX dimensions are big. The riding position is higher than other motorcycle models. As a result, XMAX has a large size for the body of the average Indonesian.
But don’t worry, I’m 168 cm tall, but it’s not hard to find a good riding position. The latest XMAX is still offered to relax in driving. The steering handlebars can be reached easily, the position of the hands is also straight, the deck design is flexible so that the legs can be semi-extended.
Soft and wide seats can add to the comfort of the XMAX when walking long distances. But the impact is that people with height under 170 cm like me can’t tread perfectly. However, the seat design which is thinner than the previous version makes the rider more confident.
Handling and suspension
This motorbike is actually not difficult to maneuver. The handlebars are quite submissive and responsive. When testing on the Toba to Medan stages, they were still fairly agile. But indeed the speed is not driven high because it follows the flow of the convoy.
XMAX has a weight of 181 kilograms, of course there is a difference with the smaller Nmax or automatic. For example, when turning a deeper corner, you need a little help from your body.
XMAX suspension when bulldozing concrete and asphalt roads feels comfortable. Then when crossing a damaged road it’s still okay as long as it’s not badly damaged or encounters a deep hole. The rear suspension is fairly soft when passing through empty roads, but when entering corners, the rear area still feels less calm or swinging.
During touring trips, the speed is also not fast, more often used leisurely walks. For daily use that doesn’t need high speed, I think this XMAX is enough.
engine performance
In matters of the pacemaker sector, Xmax Connected relies on a Blue Core engine with a capacity of 250 cc which is equipped with Liquid Cooled, SOHC, 4 Valves. On paper, this machine is capable of producing a maximum power of 16.8kW at 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 24.3 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
When tested by the New XMAX character, you can say that the energy is sufficient for stop n go, and not fierce. Power is smoothly distributed according to the gas twist. Even used uphill when crossing the hill was there.
fuel consumption
From the description of the trip above, the Yamaha XMAX is used for a rush without considering the issue of eco driving, aka fuel economy. In the information display screen, it was noted that the motor tested reached 32.6 km / liter.
That number is of course debatable. Because there is another way to calculate fuel consumption, namely the full to full method.
To support high cruising range, the Xmax is also equipped with a large gas tank capacity of up to 13 liters.
Luggage
XMAX has a spacious trunk with a capacity of up to 44.9 liters which is equipped with LED lighting to store various driving equipment for its users. Two helmets and a raincoat can also be swallowed by XMAX’s trunk.
The first navigation feature in its class
XMAX is now also equipped with a Navigation System that makes it easier for drivers to explore new places. This one feature can work with the help of the Garmin Street Cross application which is displayed via the TFT Infotainment Display.
How to connect it, the owner needs to download the Y-Connect application and Garmin Street Cross. Then register on Y-Connect, and connect with bluetooth according to the frame number.
After the Y-Connect process is complete, you need to set up a second application, Garmin Street Cross. If you don’t have an account, you must register first. Then turn on bluetooth to connect with the XMAX frame number. Once successful, you will need to download a nearly 2 giga bytes map of Southeast Asia.
This navigation feature is fairly practical, XMAX Connected owners don’t need to put their cellphone on the steering wheel for directions. What makes it even more fun, this feature already relies on GPS technology, so you don’t have to worry about losing signal or losing connection.
But the working principle is like mirroring smartphone to the head unit. So smartphone must remain on for the Garmin Cross navigation feature to work. But there’s no need to worry about running out of power, because XMAX Connected is also equipped with a charging feature in the closed left compartment. It does need an additional lighter adapter to be able to use this feature.
